About Megan McKenna

I am rooted here and care deeply about the people and places that make up Summit County.

Raised in Summit County

I grew up in Summit County with my four siblings. Our parents settled in the Snyderville Basin at a time when the local workforce could afford to buy a home and raise a family in the area.

I graduated from PCHS in 1999 and was so excited to cast my first ballot in the 2000 election at Treasure Mountain Middle School, my 4th through 8th grade alma mater.

The tremendous opportunity I had growing up in Summit County instilled in me a strong sense of responsibility and desire to better serve people, the planet, and future generations.

Dedicated to Community

I worked in the ski industry as a professional ski patroller for 11 years. During that time I worked several other service industry jobs while earning a bachelor's degree in Biology and Chemistry.

My love for the outdoors fueled my passion for the environment. I went on to earn a Master's degree in Science Education with the goal of teaching in my hometown. For the next 11 years I taught high school Earth Science, Biology, and AP Environmental Science.

In that time I saw family, friends, and coworkers pushed out of the area due to affordability. This has had a profound impact on my community.

While teaching at PCHS, I had the opportunity to buy an affordable townhome in the Park City Heights neighborhood and it was life-changing.

When Mountainlands relaunched the Housing Resource Center in the fall of 2022, I jumped at the opportunity to advocate for affordable housing along the Wasatch Back. Since then I’ve learned even more about Summit County’s greatest challenges and am eager to be part of the solution.

Commitment to Future Generations

My motivation to run for Summit County Council comes from my former students, my niece and nephews, and the working people of Summit County.

I am committed to a future-forward platform centered around sustainability, affordability, responsible growth, and regional collaboration that aims to support a prosperous Summit County where all residents can thrive for generations to come.
